  • About

Northern Kentucky's arts, culture and history live at Behringer-Crawford Museum. Opened in 1950, BCM has transformed into a regional cultural center, linking the 235,000-item collection of objects, artifacts, documents, photographs, textiles and paintings with music, dance, theater readings and lectures for art, cultural and historical context and active community engagement.

In consonance with our mission, "The regional history of Northern Kentucky as part of the Ohio Valley must be preserved for the benefit of present and future generations. Therefore, the Behringer-Crawford Museum is a center for the collection, presentation, study and enjoyment of our natural, cultural, and visual and performing arts heritage," BCM serves not only as a repository but as a community gathering place while the current history of the region takes shape.

Education is a core component of the museum's mission, which currently offers a dozen programs that complement and reinforce classroom curriculum on a wide range of subjects, many of which are specifically arts-based or contain significant arts elements meeting Kentucky's Core Academic Standards and Arts and Humanities Program Review. Through a partnership with The Devou Good Project, NaturePlay @ BCM opened last summer. This innovative, outdoor, nature-oriented playspace, located behind the museum has seen thousands of kids enjoying the outdoors.

It is this kind of broad subject range and inclusive audience reach covering so many aspects of our regional culture, that makes Behringer-Crawford Museum so special.
